RETREAT ON “ADVANCING THE 10-YEAR MANDATE

OF THE INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM (IGF)”

Glen Cove, New York

14 –16 June 2016

 

 

Place and Time of Retreat

The retreat will be held at Glen Cove Mansion in Glen Cove, New York. All participants will have their accommodation and meals provided for at the venue for the duration of the retreat. Rooms have already been booked by DESA for the nights of 14 and 15 July and participants do not need to make hotel reservations for those nights. Funded participants leaving on 17 July will, however, have to independently make a hotel booking for the night of 16 July (please see “Entitlements” below).

Arrival in Glen Cove will be on the afternoon or evening of 14 July followed by a working dinner. The work programme on 15 and 16 July will begin at 08:30 and end at approximately 18:30. Programme details, as well as meal and break times, are available in the draft agenda here.

 

Local Transportation

All participants will have access to two free shuttle buses between UN Headquarters and Glen Cove, about one’s hour drive from Manhattan. The shuttle buses will leave from 44th Street and 1st Avenue. The first bus will depart on 14 July at 14:00. The second bus will depart at 18:30. There will be one bus for the return journey at the end of the retreat on 16 July stopping at the above-mentioned location.

 

Visa

If necessary, participants must obtain a visa through the United States Consulate or Embassy in their country. Information on United States visa requirements and procedures can be found at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english.html.

International Travel

Those receiving travel funding support should note:

Ø  The UN Secretariat will provide you a round-trip economy class ticket for travel to New York and return by the most direct and economical route.

Ø  You will be contacted by the United Nations travel management service provider, American Express Travel (AMEX), which will issue your ticket in accordance with United Nations procedures.

Ø  The authorized date of arrival in New York will be 14 July 2016 or 13th i.e. the day before the working dinner on the 14th, depending on the flight arrival time in New York; and departure from New York will be 17 July 2016, i.e. the day following the close of the retreat. Any increase in the ticket cost, resulting from a change in travel itinerary or travel dates, must be borne by the participant.

Entitlements

Funded participants will receive 20% of the daily subsistence allowance (DSA) at the rate of $55.60 per day on 14 and 15 July since all meals, accommodation and transportation will be provided at Glen Cove. On 16 July funded participants will receive full DSA at the New York rate of $385/day to cover the cost of one night’s accommodation in New York; they will also have the option of spending this night in Glen Cove should they wish. Participants must independently make a hotel booking for the night of 16 July.
