IGF 2018 LIGHTNING SESSION #1 Towards NetMundial +5: What happend with the Sao Paulo Declaration

The Lightning session will look into the follow up of the NetMundial Multistakeholder Conference and the Sao Paulo Declaration from 2014. It will call to kick start am evaluation process of the Sai Paulo document to prepare a review Meeting "NetMundial+5" in connection with the 14th IGF in Berlin, November 2019, Presenter: Prof. Wolfgang Kleinwächter, former Special Ambassador of the Net Mundial Initiative and Member of the Global Commission on Stability in Cyberspace, Ambassador Benedicto Fonseca, Foreign Ministry of Brazil, Stefan Schnoor, German Ministry of Economics (TBC), Max Senges, Stanford University and Google Office Berlin

Evolution of Internet Governance
In the LT Wolfgang Kleinwächter, retired Professor from the University of Aarhus and Member of the Global Commission on Stability in Cyberspace, reviewed the progress which has been reached since the adoption of the Sao Paulo Declaration in 2014. He underlined that Netmundial was a landmark event. The principles adopted in the Netmundial Statement by all stakeholders are so far the most universal principles for internet governance. The Presenter proposed to use the 5th anniversary of the adoption of the Sao Paulo to ŕeview, how the Principles and the Roadmap are implemented and where more work is needed. He proposed to kick start a process towards a netmundial+5 event linked to the 14th IGF in Berlin in November 2019. Ambassador Benedicto Fonseca from the Brazilian foreign office gave additional background information and called the 2014 process as a real Invention in Internet policy making and truly multistakeholder. He welcomed the Netmundial+5 plan. Dr. Grathwohl from the German Government said that Germany will be happy to host a Netmundial+5 event as part of the IGF 2019 in Berlin.
