[Bpf-localcontent] Session: BPF Local Content - 09:30 - Estrel Saal C

Hi people,

Just to let you know that the session on the BPF on Local Content will
start in less than half a hour in Saal C, with a very interesting panel
discussing an excellent outcome report, whose draft is attached. The panel:

Elena Perotti
Executive Director of Media Policy and Public Affairs at WAN-IFRA, the
World Association of News Publishers. She is responsible for identifying
and studying major public affairs issues within the news industry, and
is leader and/or author of all research output of the department. Elena
is also in charge of the News Literacy initiatives, and of interaction
and liaison with WAN-IFRA’s governing boards, as well as with national
and regional member associations, and international bodies.

Thiago Novaes
Post-doc researcher in Anthropology and Communication. Collaborated in
the definition of the Brazilian Digital Television System in 2003 and
2004. Worked as special advisor of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil
during the WSIS in Tunis, 2005, and coordinated the public policy
Digital Culture, in the same year. Worked in many workshops and projects
in Europe concerning community appropriation of tics and free software.
Currently, publishes on interactive digital broadcasting and community
networks.

Kemly Camacho
General coordinator of Sulá Batsú Cooperative, Costa Rica. She is a
computer engineer from the Technological Institute of Costa Rica and an
anthropologist from the University of Costa Rica. He is a PhD student in
the interdisciplinary program on the information and knowledge society
of the Open University of Catalonia.

Francisco Casaccia (government of Paraguay)

Alison Carmel Ramer
Digital rights defender, writer, researcher and activist, international
relations coordinator of 7amleh – Arab Center for Social Media
Advancement. For the past ten years she has supported building the
capacity of human rights defenders and civil society organizations to
advocate for their rights utilizing digital technologies and the
Internet. She has worked with dozens of local and international
organizations including Oxfam and World Vision.

Santiago Schuster <santiagoschuster at gmail.com>
Lawyer, PhD in Law (University of Chile) specializing in intellectual
property rights. Professor of intellectual property law at University of
Chile. Member of Pablo Neruda Foundation, Interamerican Institute of
Author Rights (IIDA), Iberoamerican Organization of Author Rights
(Latinautor).

Arturo Bregaglio
Lawyer and journalist. Director of Radio Viva, cooperative citizens'
radio in Paraguay. Executive director of Asociación Trinidad. Former
vice-president of AMARC Latin America and Caribbean. Member of the Open
Government Table in Paraguay.

Nic Bidwell
Adjunct Professor at the  International University of Management. Her
work with rural inhabitants in "the global south", including indigenous
groups, is sensitive to local meanings about community, innovation,
inclusion, identity etc. In academia, Nic is known for catalysing new
directions in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), e.g.
initiating the first indigenous-led digital design panel (2008), first
publications about decolonalism (2015) in the ACM and co-founding
AfriCHI, the African ACM conference on HCI. She co-edited a book
‘Intersections between Indigenous Knowledge and Technology’, and
received an inaugural award for Best Contribution to Social and Economic
Development  for her co-design of techs for local content sharing in
Eastern Cape, South Africa.  Nic currently manages and mentors an APC
project to seed a Community Network amongst the Ju|’hoansi people of the
San indigenous group in the Kalahari, and works on rural and
intercultural projects including local radio in remote islands off the
coast of Ireland with University College Cork, local concepts and AI
with the University of Cambridge.

Bertrand Moullier
A consultant in the international film and TV production industries;
he’s at IGF representing FIAPF, the International Federation of Fillm
Producers Associations.

Valensiya Dresvyannikova
Policy and Research Officer, IFLA
