Dear Colleagues,

This is to give you a quick update on the status of two of the intersessional IGF activities:

Following our last MAG meeting in May, all organizers of regional and national IGFs have been contacted individually and reminded of the opportunity to get involved, especially in developing "Policy Options for Connecting the Next Billion<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/policy-options-for-connection-the-next-billion>". At this stage, around 10 IGFs have confirmed they were picking-up the theme. We will work in the coming weeks on involving more.

The 6 Best Practices Forums<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/best-practice-forums> (IPv6 implementation, Developing IXPs, Multistakeholder Mechanisms, Establishing CSIRTs, Countering abuse against women online, Mitigating Spam) are also now on track, including the ones recently launched. The aim for all of them is to work towards draft outputs by mid-September that would then be open to comments via a web platform. An iterative process would then lead to the November Best Practices Forums, at IGF Brazil. The six IGF Best Practices tracks are open to all stakeholders; if you would like to get involved in any of them, please visit the IGF website<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/best-practice-forums>.

Best regards,

Constance

Subject: [IGFmaglist] Invitation to join intersessional activities towards IGF 2015 outputs

Dear all,
The report<http://unctad.org/meetings/en/SessionalDocuments/a67d65_en.pdf> produced by the UN CSTD working group on improvements to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) called for the development of more tangible outputs to “enhance the impact of the IGF on global Internet governance and policy”. In order to enrich the potential for IGF outputs, the IGF is working on a set of intersessional activities including best practice forums (BPFs), Dynamic Coalitions and a new track, "Policy Options For Connecting the Next Billion". The outputs from these activities are intended to become dynamic resources, to be nurtured and serve in turn as inputs into other forums such as WSIS+10.
We hereby remind all stakeholders to participate in the range of intersessional activities that the IGF is undertaking this year in order to help pave the way to IGF 2015<http://www.igf2015.br/> in João Passau in November.
For updates on these different tracks of work, you can join this mailing list<http://www.intgovforum.org/mailman/listinfo/intersessional_2015_intgovforum.org>. You can also get involved in preparations in various ways, depending on your areas of interest.

i. Call for input: Policy options for connecting the next billion

All stakeholders, including the regional and national IGF initiatives, are invited to send background contributions on "Policy Options for Connecting the Next Billion".

You are invited to share this call with your community and submit your valuable views and background contributions to the theme. While all contributions will be welcomed, a proposed format for submissions is contained in the attached Call<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/documents/igf-meeting/463-connecting-the-next-billion-2>.

Kindly send all input to Anri van der Spuy (avanderspuy at unog.ch<mailto:avanderspuy at unog.ch>) and Brian Gutterman (gutterman at un.org<mailto:gutterman at un.org>).

ii. Participate in IGF Best Practice Forums

The six BPF themes for 2015 are:

  *   ·       Regulation and mitigation of unwanted communications;
  *   ·       Establishing and supporting computer security incident response teams (CSIRTs);
  *   ·       Developing meaningful multistakeholder participation mechanisms;
  *   ·       Practices to countering the abuse of women online;
  *   ·       IPv6; and
  *   ·       IXPs.

While work has begun on all of these themes, BPFs welcome any new participants. If you can contribute to one or more of these topical themes, and visit on the online resource<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/best-practice-forums> available for each theme and join the mailing lists<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/best-practice-forums>.

iii. Form or join Dynamic Coalitions

Dynamic coalitions are informal, issue-specific groups comprising members of various stakeholder groups. If you are interested in forming such a coalition, please read more about these initiatives here<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/dynamiccoalitions>, and feel free to contact the IGF Secretariat if you have any questions (avanderspuy at unog.ch<mailto:avanderspuy at unog.ch>).

We look forward to receiving your valuable input.
Best regards,
IGF Secretariat
