George Chen is the Managing Director of Public Policy for Greater China, Mongolia, and Central Asia at Meta. In this role, George serves as Meta’s “ambassador” to engage with the people and governments on various policy issues across the vast and diverse regions. George joined Meta (previously known as Facebook) in January 2016 as the company’s first-ever policy representative based in Hong Kong, home for Meta in the Greater China region. Prior to Meta, George has held management roles in international media organizations including the South China Morning Post and Reuters.
George was appointed by Yale University a Yale World Fellow in 2014. He was also a 2015 fellow of the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. George has been a Board Member of American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong since 2019. George was awarded the “Medal of Friendship” in 2022 by the order of the President of Mongolia -- the highest honour for foreigners -- for his years-long contributions to Mongolia’s IT industry development.
George holds a Master’s degree of international and public affairs (distinction) from the University of Hong Kong, where he has also been a doctoral candidate with focus on research about freedom of expression.
