Targets: This networking session aims to improve democracy and political participation by empowering and socially including minorities and vulnerable groups through the strengthening of grassroots initiatives and collaborations among them and other organizations, using the internet as a means. Our goal should contribute to strengthening women's rights (target 5.b), increasing digital inclusion (10.2), and reducing inequalities among countries. Through the networking between different organizations that use the internet to highlight people's needs, it also enhances global partnerships for sustainable development (17.16 and 17.17).

Format

In this meet-up dynamic, participants will be split into breakout groups a few times using a card game. Each participant will be given a unique card with specific attributes, and groups will be formed based on one selected attribute. In each breakout group, participants will introduce themselves and discuss questions proposed by the moderator related to the topic of the meeting. The questions will be open-ended, and participants will be encouraged to share their experiences, thoughts, and opinions. After a designated time, the groups will reconvene, and participants will be reassigned to new breakout groups based on the card game. This process will be repeated a few times to allow participants to engage with various individuals and ideas. By the end of the meet-up, participants will have had the opportunity to network, share their experiences, and gain new insights on the topic.

Description

"Join us for a networking session dedicated to exploring the intersection of internet governance, digital technologies, and grassroots movements. Our goal is to facilitate a dynamic exchange of experiences and ideas among grassroots members, activists, researchers, and representatives from the government and private sectors who are interested in fostering the development of and interactions with grassroots movements. Through this session, we will examine the impact of the internet and emerging technologies on these movements and explore ways these instruments promote their growth and sustainability as a path for strengthening democracy and inclusion. This session is directly linked to the IGF 2022 theme of 'Connecting All People and Safeguarding Human Rights.' We invite you to contribute to the conversation and help build a collaborative community dedicated to advancing these important issues."

To facilitate online participation in the networking session, we will utilize video conferencing tools with breakout room capabilities. Online participants will be divided into groups similar to the onsite attendees and will engage in discussions amongst themselves parallel to the in-person group. To enable interaction between the online and onsite participants, one breakout group will be hybrid, pairing up individuals from both groups. As the breakout groups are rearranged several times, all participants will have the opportunity to join the hybrid room. Additionally, we will provide remote participants with an alternative method of communication, such as a chat room or messaging platform, to allow for further interaction and feedback with the moderator or other participants.
