    Description

The space sector is not only about space exploration and spectacular missions. It is also monitoring the Earth, carried out from orbit using satellites. Data collected by measuring devices located on satellites is a huge amount of information, which, when transmitted on an ongoing basis, together with historical data create powerful repositories, enabling a better understanding of our planet and accelerating the digital transformation in many sectors of the economy. The European Copernicus Earth Observation program provides access to open and free satellite data that has a wide range of applications - from meteorology, climate monitoring, coastline, agriculture, forestry, urban planning, to the construction and insurance sectors. Thanks to cloud computing technologies, this information is widely available for public administration, science and business. During the discussion panel, the invited guests will discuss the needs, challenges and new, ground-breaking opportunities related to the use of Earth Observation data. They will present specific use cases and projects implemented in various market sectors and the effects obtained in the area of accelerating digital transformation, better understanding and modeling of processes taking place on Earth, new opportunities in the field of water, climate, agriculture, forestry and air pollution monitoring.

Session will be run online. There will be Q&A session at the end. Session format:

    1. Introduction - the moderator will briefly present the subject of Earth Observation data, the European Copernicus program, which enables open and free access to satellite data and its use in various branches of the economy, also new technologies (cloud computing) and solutions developed by Polish companies, institutions and organizations that can be used globally

    2. Presentation of the different domains, where Earth Observation data are used: marine, agriculture, forestry, air pollution. Experts from several institutions / organizations / companies will briefly present their area of expertise and experiences related to the use of satellite data as well as the projects carried out and the results obtained

    3. Panel discussion to show new opportunities of using satellite data in different sectors of the economy and by different types of users

    4. Summary and conclusions from the discussion, highlighting the effects and lessons from the projects

    5. Q&A
