Targets: Our AI-driven challenge directly contributes to fostering innovation in diplomacy (SDG 9) by developing technological solutions that enhance the efficiency of foreign policy professionals. Through collaboration between policymakers, diplomats, and data scientists, we create tools that promote transparency and accountability in decision-making (SDG 16, SDG 16.6). The AI assistant developed in partnership with Omdena exemplifies how technology can streamline complex diplomatic negotiations by summarizing vast policy documents and extracting key insights. This initiative underscores the value of international cooperation and knowledge-sharing in diplomacy (SDG 17). By bringing together experts across sectors and borders (SDG 17.6, SDG 17.16, SDG 17.17), we strengthen global partnerships and demonstrate how AI can support more inclusive, data-informed, and effective diplomacy.

    Description
By organizing challenges, we unite policymakers, diplomats, and data scientists to develop AI-driven solutions that enhance the work of foreign policy professionals. These interdisciplinary collaborations foster innovation and ensure that emerging technologies are tailored to real-world diplomatic needs. Last year, in collaboration with Omdena, we explored the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) to support complex diplomatic negotiations. The project resulted in a Proof-of-Concept AI assistant designed to help policy officers efficiently summarize vast policy documents, extract key insights, and identify relevant stakeholders. Using the UN’s Global Digital Compact (GDC) negotiations as a test case, we demonstrated how AI can streamline diplomatic workflows, reduce information overload, and empower policymakers with data-driven decision support. Building on this foundation, we continue to explore how AI can facilitate multilingual negotiations, enhance cross-border collaboration, and ensure that underrepresented voices are included in global decision-making. By integrating AI tools into diplomatic practice, we not only increase efficiency but also contribute to more transparent, informed, and inclusive policy processes on the international stage. We highly value virtual participation. Therefore, we aim to alternate between onsite and offsite speakers during the open discussion / FAQ session at the end to ensure balanced engagement. David will manage the conversation and facilitate any questions, ensuring that both in-person and remote participants have equal opportunities to contribute.
