    Description

The aim of this workshop is to ensure a good understanding of current international processes that might impact the future of global Internet governance and the way they may influence the Internet of the future. The ITU proposal on New IP will be a point for departure of discussing the validity of a national sovereignty concerns and how they may affect governance of critical Inernet infrastructures. Is the concept "One World, One Internet" outdated at times of global cyber threats? Should we distribute the authority to manage the core of the Internet among national governments and their appointed actors? Has this already happened through advanced regulation of critical Internet infrastructures?

The proposed panel falls directly into current global geopolitical discussions around regional and national cybersecurity approaches and their impact onto the existing Internet governance model. The panel seeks to advance the multi-stakeholder model and support the global public interest. It will deepen understanding on how critical Internet infrastructures operate and why regulatory actions at national level might be harmful to the universality and accessibility of cyberspace. In that regard, it will contribute to UN strategic objective of promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustaiinable development, providing access to justice for all and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels (SDG9 and SDG16).
