    Description

2021 begins the United Nations' Ocean Decade Its vision assumes the cooperation of all stakeholders, including scientists and decision-makers, who will work together for the benefit of ecosystems and, consequently, society. An important area of activities under the Decade is the development of methods of modern environmental education, using information and communication technologies, digital resources, methods of community involvement and cooperation via the Internet. The proposed workshop aims to explore the methods and strategies of environmental education on the example of ocean science. The workshop is focused on enabling the exchange of information between those who are not indifferent to the fate of natural resources, including our seas and oceans. We want to build a community whose representatives recognize the sense of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially issues related to the seas and oceans.

The last year related to the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how effective the Internet is in communication and education. Thus, an important element of the proposed workshops will be the use of online resources (tools and content) in a modern approach to environmental education. Then, each group will develop an action aimed at raising the awareness of selected audiences or the broadly understood society on issues related to promoting actions aimed at mitigating the effects of adverse changes in the marine environment and / or actions aimed at adaptation to changing environmental conditions. The groups will also prepare names, acronyms and slogans for their projects and present the results of their work. Participants are divided into groups, maximum 6 people per group. Groups are formed in the hall and online. In the first phase of the workshop, participants will listen to short lectures on climate change, the role of the oceans in these changes, the state of the marine environment and learn about examples of good practice in promoting positive behavior towards seas and oceans, including the role of resources and online tools. Then, each group (also online) prepares an action, cycle of activities, promotional process, etc., the aim of which will be to raise the awareness of a selected group of recipients or the broadly understood society in terms of promoting activities aimed at mitigating the effects of adverse changes in the marine environment and / or activities aimed at adapting to changing environmental conditions. The groups will prepare names for their projects, acronyms, slogans and in the last phase of the workshop they will present the results of their work to the general forum of the workshop participants. In the hybrid version, we can accept a total of 40 participants (30 people in the room plus 2 groups of 5 people online).
