in the post-snowden era it has become common for internet developers to treat all on-path monitoring or interference as adversarial, with no exceptions allowed for ad blockers, content filters, or firewalls within host operating systems or privately operated network gateways. we are told to secure our endpoints and to train up our employees, customers, and minor children to be able to cope with anything their web browser might bring. DNS over HTTPS, TLS 1.3 Encrypted Client Hello, and HTTP/3 (QUIC) have very strong support from industry, but with motives that may not be fully aligned with human freedom or human dignity. let's discuss.
