Targets: The conversations around the challenges and progress made by different stakeholders, countries and regions to implement General Comment N° 25, enlight some of the efforts made and needed to end all forms of violence against children and protect their fundamental rights and access to information in the digital environment.
Violence in the digital world can be especially harmful for women and girls. Besides, the power and transformational potential of Internet use is not equally distributed by gender. Given that, efforts to guarantee children's rights in the digital environment need to consider gender perspectives in how to promote access, digital literacy, privacy and online safety.
Description:
After three years of contributions and work with multiple states, organizations, experts and children, In March 2021 the Committee on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations (UN), adopted the General comment No. 25 (2021) on children’s rights in relation to the digital environment. This is the first time that children’s digital experiences are mentioned within the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the first international authoritative legal document recognizing explicitly that their rights apply both offline and online. States will have to report on how they meet the obligations to ensure that all duty bearers within their jurisdiction meet their responsibilities to children’s rights in relation to the digital environment - including businesses or other whose activities impact on children-.
The aim of this session will explore the conversations around this topic - examine how countries and regions are implementing this framework and the challenges or limitations for its adoption within national policy.
A report which will capture recommendations on how Youth can advocate, be inclusive in improving this action call with the internet governance ecosystem and also advance then conversation on what can be done differently.
Hybrid Format: By providing space for Q&A's for all the attendees. The Moderator will gather the questions from the audience and will answer them or direct them to the speakers .A balance and provide opportunity for everyone (on and off line) to participate.
