Description

Presentation and launch of the initiative ‘Cybersecurity in our own words’, a program developed and implemented by the OAS in specific OAS Member States, with the purpose of raising awareness about safe internet practices with primary and secondary education students in indigenous communities (using their native languages). This initiative includes the development and dissemination of infographics with “Cyber Rights”, written not only in Spanish and English, but also in local indigenous languages like Mayan or Quechua, using terms that are easy to comprehend even for students who are not very tech-savvy.

The presentation will last approximately 10 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A session of 10 minutes, where both online and onsite attendees will be able to ask questions relevant to the topic. The onsite moderator will give the microphone to the onsite participants, while the online moderator will mediate the online discussion, allowing online participants who raise their hand to interact as well. The online moderator will also check that the aspects pertaining to the online meeting such as connectivity and audio work well and address any issues that arise. The Q&A session will begin with some guiding questions, for the participants to reflect on the challenges and opportunities to promote inclusion in cybersecurity, which would foster collaboration, promote engagement, and allow for a meaningful discussion between the attendees.
