IGF 2023 Lightning Talk #139 Using Design Fiction to build the Internet We Want

The overarching theme of IGF 2023 is "The Internet We Want - Empowering All People" which involves listening to different voices to create a desirable future scenario for the Internet. Design Fiction is a design method that blends speculative scenarios and storytelling to explore potential futures and engage in critical dialogue. Design Fiction can be a valuable tool for governance discussions as it allows policymakers, decision-makers, and citizens to explore and understand the potential implications and consequences of future scenarios and policies. This presentation shows how governance practitioners can use the Design Fiction method to create collaborative and desirable future scenarios, explore possibilities, anticipate risks, and think critically about the consequences of governance decisions. During this presentation, we will present the foundations of the method, how it works, and some use cases to inform the audience on how to incorporate Design Fiction as an additional method when discussing Internet governance.

We will using IGF official tool to interact with online participants. Online moderator will collect questions and inputs and share with onsite moderator and speakers to discuss with both onsite and online audience.
