IGF 2024 DC-Environment AI & its Energy Demand: Environmental Implications of AI

    Roundtable
    Duration (minutes): 90
Format description: In this session, we aim to spark a dialogue on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and energy demands, addressing the environmental implications of AI technologies and their increasing energy consumption. Therefore, a 90-minute roundtable discussion will afford us sufficient time to delve deeply into these subjects, facilitating a productive exchange of ideas and the generation of actionable insights. We want participants to feel at par with the speakers, providing equal opportunity to put forth their points and add value to the discourse.

    Description

This session explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and energy demands, addressing the environmental implications of AI technologies and their increasing energy consumption. We will discuss the rapid proliferation of AI applications across various sectors and the consequent surge in energy usage, highlighting the need for sustainable AI development practices. Experts will examine strategies to optimize AI algorithms, hardware, and infrastructure to minimize energy consumption while maximizing performance. Additionally, we will explore renewable energy solutions and energy-efficient computing techniques to mitigate the environmental footprint of AI systems.

We will plan for robust online participation through a dedicated online platform, ensuring equal participation opportunities for remote attendees. Onsite and online moderators will facilitate discussions, to ensure a cohesive experience for all participants. We will incorporate live polls, breakout sessions, and a dedicated Q&A segment to foster interactive dialogue between all stakeholders and participants.
