    SDGs

    14. Life Below Water

    Targets: Here's how they connect:

SDG 14 Target 1: Reduce marine pollution. Submarine cable installation can stir up sediment, increasing water turbidity and potentially harming marine life. This disrupts a healthy marine environment.
SDG 14 Target 2: Protect and restore marine and coastal ecosystems. Laying cables can damage fragile habitats like coral reefs, impacting biodiversity and ecosystem health.
SDG 14 Target 4: Sustainable fishing. Disruption of the seabed and noise pollution from cables can affect fish behavior and populations, hindering sustainable fishing practices.
SDG 14 Target 5: Conserve coastal and marine areas. Cable routes can sometimes traverse protected marine areas, potentially impacting conservation efforts.

    Format

The presentation will be delivered in short videos, interactive talks and Power Point Presentation.

    Description

This talk is design for a broad audience interested in:

    1. The impact of technology on the marine environment.
    2. The marvels of submarine technology and global connectivity.
    3. Finding solutions for a more sustainable future.

The presentation will incorporate captivating visuals such as:
    1. Maps depicting cable routes across the globe.
    2. Diagrams showing cable structures and their impact on the seabed.
    3. Stunning underwater photographs show casing the diverse marine life potentially affected.

A question and answer session will be included to facilitate audience participation (onsite and online) and encourage discussion on the future of submarine cables and marine ecosystem health.

I'll outline how to facilitate interaction between myself (as the presenter), online speakers, and both online and onsite attendees for my talk on "The Impact of Submarine Cable on Marine Ecosystems."

    1. Interactive Platform:

I'll utilize a user-friendly online platform like Zoom Webinar or Microsoft Teams Live Events. These platforms allow everyone to:
Ask questions through a Q&A chat function I'll moderate.
Participate in polls and surveys to gauge audience understanding and gather real-time feedback.

    2. Engaging Format:
I'll structure the talk with clear sections for presentations, discussions, and Q&A.
I'll incorporate live demonstrations or short videos relevant to the topic.
I'll pose open-ended questions throughout the talk to encourage both online and onsite participants to reflect and participate in the discussion.

    3. Bridging the Gap:
Onsite audience: I'll project online questions and comments on a screen visible to everyone.
Online audience: I'll briefly acknowledge and address questions from onsite participants to create a sense of connection.
Encourage interaction: I'll prompt online participants to use specific emojis or keywords in the chat to react to the presentation (e.g., "thumbs up" for agreement, "lightbulb" for questions).

    4. Complementary Online Tools:
Pre-session Survey: I'll use online survey tools like Google Forms or SurveyMonkey to gather audience expectations and interests beforehand. This can help me tailor the talk and address any specific concerns.
Collaborative Pad: I'll utilize online collaborative platforms like Padlet or Mentimeter to allow both online and onsite participants to brainstorm ideas or share their thoughts on specific topics in real-time.

    5. Post-Session Engagement:
I'll share a recording of the talk and presentation slides with all participants.
I'll use online forums or discussion boards to continue the conversation after the session.
I'll encourage participants to share their thoughts and insights on social media using a dedicated hashtag.
By using these methods, I can create an engaging and interactive experience for everyone, fostering a sense of community and shared learning.
