This initiative underscores the Internet's catalytic role in driving the digital economy, urging nations to prioritize and enhance Information and Communications Technology (ICT) diffusion, with a particular emphasis on expanding internet accessibility and affordability in the least developed countries. By markedly improving internet access, it aims to bridge the digital divide, fostering economic growth and societal advancement.

    The event will examine, through lightning talks, the core catalytic role of the Internet in today's digital economy ecosystem, demonstrating how Internet technologies propel the innovation and growth trajectory of the digital economy. Initiating with OECD's key data on the Internet, we will underline the significance of developing and disseminating Internet infrastructure in narrowing the digital divide and broadening participation in the digital economy. Progressing, a variety of industry case studies and statistical data will be utilized to illustrate the innovative application scenarios emerging from the convergence of the Internet with nascent technologies such as AI, big data, cloud computing, and blockchain, elucidating their transformative impact on traditional industries and the birth of new economic growth vectors. Culminating with reference to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals indicators, the extensive applications of the Internet in sectors like education, healthcare, and environmental protection will be showcased, highlighting its contribution to poverty alleviation, job creation, public service enhancement, and through examples of digital cooperation across regions, revealing the Internet's immense potential in fostering balanced global economic development and shared prosperity.
