Targets: I am a Brazilian woman. By participating in the event talking about my research, I will be strengthening the participation of a Latin American developing country in the institutions of global governance. the use of video surveillance cameras for facial recognition of people by the government of the state of Bahia, Brazil. It was identified a high cost for the maintenance of the equipment, lack of participation of society, especially minority groups and those most vulnerable to this technology before its implementation, lack of transparency to the population of the discretion used and what is done with this database.
To better understand the seriousness and abuse of the state in some cities, the population does not even know that this technology is used in total disregard of the right to privacy, among other violations.
It was also identified that the use of this technology, according to official figures, did not reduce crime, despite the high financial investment.
The objective of the session is show that the use of technology harms more than it helps the population and the money used, if it were applied in other sectors, such as education and health, for example, would bring more benefits to the population.
