IGF 2024 NRIs Session Proposals

NRIs Collaborative Sessions
The NRIs Collaborative Sessions are interactive sessions organized by a number of NRIs from different regions on a topic of mutual interest. All topics are defined based on an open, consultative, bottom-up process across all NRIs. More about the NRIs collaborative sessions is available in the NRIs Session Guidelines.

These workshop-like collaborative sessions are planned each year by the NRIs through a consultative bottom-up process among all NRIs multistakeholder organizing committees through the NRIs coordinators involvement.

NRIs Main Session
The NRIs as a network, are committed to organize a joint, main session at the annual IGF meeting in collaboraton with the Collaboration members of the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), while respecting both groups working modalities. The planning process is carried by the NRIs representatives and/or coordinators designated by their multistakeholder organizing committees, in an open, inclusive, transparent and bottom-up manner.

The main objectives of this session, as outlined in the NRIs session Guidelines, are:

  • To contribute to the meeting quality and comprehensiveness by bringing local, national and regional perspectives, challenges and good practices
  • To showcase the diversity among the countries and regions across the world, on matters related to the Internet governance
  • Through joint work over one IGF cycle, the NRIs to continue building firmer sense of community

The main session engages NRIs from different regions. Its format is interactive and dialogue-based. The session is interpreted to six UN languages and transcribed.

For IGF 2024, the proposed main session focuses on:

  • Evolution of Internet governance and multistakeholder model

NRIs Coordination Session
It is an established practice that the NRIs summarize the work year at the end of each IGF annual meeting, and describe goals achieved, challenges and suggestions for the next IGF cycle and beyond. The NRIs Coordination Session is an open work meeting of the NRIs, with the representatives of the global IGF and wider IGF community. Its agenda, format and other related details are planned in advance by the NRIs, in an open, inclusive and bottom-up manner.

The main objectives of this session, as outlined in the NRIs session Guidelines, are:

  • To meet in one place and identify achieved goals, challenges and suggest ways for improvements: collectively and individually;
  • To facilitate the above-indicated by exchanging inputs between the NRIs themselves, and between the NRIs, the Chair of the MAG, UN DESA, IGF Secretariat, traditional supporters of the NRIs and all other interested stakeholders;
  • To plan the next year’s work.

The collaborative session engages NRIs from different regions, but also many individual and institutional stakeholders. Its format is interactive and dialogue-based.

For IGF 2024, the proposed NRIs coordination session focuses on:

  • What NRIs could do for WSIS+20? How could they contribute?
