Amnesty International plans to display materials related to its global work on protecting online expression from undue influence as a result of Internet governance practices by various stakeholders, including governments and tech companies. As well as printed materials from Amnesty International’s research on the topic, our team will offer merchandise related to freedom on the Internet, and an interactive activity in the form of a quiz to raise awareness on the topic of online expression and Internet governance. Our goal is that this village booth can create opportunities for informal dialogue between all stakeholders, including civil society, governments and companies, on protecting online expression from undue influence. We will encourage conversation on the following topics: - How can policymakers strike the right balance in regulating the online space, drawing from the experiences of legislation-making in the EU and other locations, while ensuring that the laws enacted are not repressive and uphold the principles of freedom of expression and digital rights? - What role should governments, big tech companies, civil society organizations, and lawmakers play in protecting online expression from undue influence? - How can we build better support and solidarity networks for individuals whose rights are harmed as a result of expressing themselves online?
