    Format

    Roundtable
    Duration (minutes): 90
    Format description: • We would like to discuss the designated topics in a roundtable format with the main issues and the main outstanding problems presented in advance.
    As a classic form of communication, the core strength of the roundtable is to promote equal and open dialogue and stimulate deeper thinking and broader perspectives. To take advantage of this, we chose to set the meeting length to 90 minutes to ensure that the relevant topics and background are fully covered and that participants have enough time to discuss them in depth.

    Policy Question(s)

    1. Why should the personal information of college students be concerned?
    • The admission age of college students is usually above 18 years old, that is, college students themselves are adults with full civil capacity and autonomy of personal information, but the rights of the personal information subject are limited based on the needs of college management.
    • College students' personal information is often over-collected and improperly stored, and is limited by the complex administrative system of colleges and universities, which makes it difficult for college students to realize their rights as subjects of personal information.

    What will participants gain from attending this session? We look forward to jointly paying attention to and discussing with the participants the deficiencies in the field of personal information protection of university students, and we also hope to actively explore and promote operational and comprehensive compliance programs with the participants. In our sessions, meeting participants and attendees will:
    • Understand the current situation of personal information processing of college students, as well as the mismatch between personal information protection regulations and college education administration;
    • Understand the limitation of personal information rights of adults and college students under the dual status of management, and the reasons for this situation;
    • To understand and discuss the positive measures taken by similar universities or other similar institutions at home and abroad to improve the personal information rights of college students;
    • Jointly discuss the basic compliance framework that can be referenced in the future worldwide.

    Description:

    College students as adults have full autonomy of personal information, but the right of the personal information subject is limited based on the needs of college management. Due to the lack of legal provisions, the limits of individual rights of college students are vague at present, which not only easily leads to the problem of difficult protection of the rights of college students' personal information subjects, but also restricts the comprehensive development of college education management informatization. Through this seminar, we hope to call attention to the issue of personal information protection of college students, which has been neglected for a long time, and discuss the following issues through the conference:
    • Necessity
    • Current Status
    • The special features of college students' personal information protection
    • Discuss practices that universities around the world can learn from
