Format
Roundtable
Roundtable format. The session will start with a brief introduction from the IGF Support Association on work that has been done so far on providing funding for the global IGF and the NRI network. The bulk of the time of this session will be focused on a true roundtable which will explore the different funding models, best practices to get the most out of the scarce resources, as well as pain points from NRIs, and creative funding approaches the IGF Support Association and the IGF stakeholders can consider. In particular, MAGs and Secretariats of the NRIs will be invited to co-organize, and take part to share and draw on their experiences and challenges as we explore sustainable funding for NRIs.

Description
The Internet Governance Forum Support Association (IGFSA) was set up in 2014 to support the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The goal of the IGFSA is to provide stable and sustainable support for the IGF Secretariat and particularly provide small grants to National, Regional, Sub-regional, and Youth Initiatives (NRIs).
To date, IGF Support Association has contributed a cumulative total of $601,000 USD to 73 Regional/Sub-regional meetings, 175 National meetings and 23 Youth meetings. Since 2014, the IGF Support Association has also contributed a cumulative total of $335,000 to the IGF Trust Fund.
With the discussions surrounding the WSIS+20 review and the growing call from the Internet governance community for a permanent mandate for the IGF, secure and stable funding is paramount both for the annual global IGF, the 170+ NRIs and all the intersessional work (Dynamic Coalitions, Best Practice Forums, Policy Networks) and outputs from the IGF ecosystem.
This roundtable will explore the different funding models, best practices to get the most out of the scarce resources, as well as pain points from NRIs, and creative funding approaches the IGF Support Association and the IGF stakeholders can consider.
Both in-person and online participants will be called upon and facilitated in an equal opportunity manner as coordinated by the in-person and online moderators. As this session is envisioned to be a true roundtable, participants will be utilizing the raise hand tool in Zoom for queue management for an equitable online/in-person experience.
