4. Quality Education
10. Reduced Inequalities
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
17. Partnerships for the Goals
Targets: 4: Quality Education: Our journalists visit the classes to inspire courage in expression and societal engagement. They also discuss source evaluation, press ethics, and the distinction between editor-led media and other types of sources that students use. 10: Reduced Inequalities: News for all - not just for the ones that can afford a subscription. 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: In the classrooms, we aim to inspire courage in expression and societal engagement. We also offer workshops in writing opinion pieces. This is important for the project because it's about getting young people to engage in public debate. And we are getting results. We have significantly increased the number of opinion pieces from young people and will work to increase it even more in the future. 17: Partherships for the Goals: We do not have the funds to carry a project of this size through normal operations. At the same time, we need to find new ways to finance journalism. Therefore, we spent time convincing local businesses and foundations to support the project. We have raised approx 3 million Norwegian kroner to cover the school year 2024/2025. This is a Non-profit project for Fædelandsvennen

Description
In Norway, trust in the news media has always been strong compared to other countries. However, we are now seeing a shift, particularly among younger audiences. Access to reliable, editor-controlled news has become scarce for young people. In the past, newspapers were on the living room table, and the evening news played on TV. Today, these traditional information channels have largely been replaced by a flood of more or less credible sources on social media. It is crucial that young people learn the difference between trustworthy information and information that should be questioned.
Through its YOUNG project, Fædrelandsvennen has successfully helped teenagers become more critical of sources and more aware of where their information comes from. They have collaborated with local businesses and schools in our community to better equip young people for the future.
- We provide the students with their own subscription to fvn.no, financed by local businesses and foundations.
- We visit them in the classroom and talk with the students about press ethics, the courage to express themselves, and why it is important for democracy that also young people get involved.
- We create targeted content, hold debate competitions, facilitate young people's contributions of opinions on fvn.no, and the use of this content in teaching.
- The classes are invited to visit the editorial office, they receive help and guidance in writing debate articles, and journalists from Fædrelandsvennen have contributed to the school's subject day within the theme.
Relevant to all four of the IGF issue areas: Digital Trust and Resilience, Sustainable and Responsible Innovation, Universal Access and Digital Rights, Digital Cooperation
