The session's exploration of digital states and virtual identities directly relates to building the infrastructure of the future. SDG 16. This is perhaps the most relevant SDG. The discussion of sovereignty, privacy, accountability, and cross-border exchange are all core components of strong, just, and inclusive institutions. Specifically: The session addresses the need for accountability in integrating innovations into state mechanisms. It implicitly raises questions about access to justice and the rule of law in digital spaces. The discussion of cross-border exchange relates to international cooperation and governance. SDG 17. Addressing the challenges and opportunities of digital states requires collaboration between nations, civil society, academia, and the private sector. The session itself, designed as a dialogue between these stakeholders, directly contributes to SDG 17.

    Description

While government digitalization has enormous preservation capacity, provides opportunities for unique communities and relieves red tape issues, it still raises questions of sovereignty, privacy, leaks, freedom, cross-border exchange and status of borders itself. Concepts like metaverse governance model, digital nomads, virtual states and virtual identity are brand new and debatable. The session is seen as a dialogue between representatives of policy, civil society and academia with the emphasis on vitality of not losing the accountability in the process of integrating innovations in state mechanisms.
