Description
Aiming to address information disorder, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Google collaborated to establish the Safer Internet Lab (SAIL), a hub dedicated to studying and exploring potential solutions to this pressing issue. Since its inception in 2022, SAIL has consistently worked to foster tripartite communication between government, civil society, and tech platforms, bringing together the brightest minds from across stakeholder groups.
Resonating with IGF’s spirit of building digital governance together, SAIL aims to contribute to a more resilient and safer digital ecosystem through shared insights and multi-stakeholder engagement. SAIL has facilitated diverse knowledge-sharing initiatives, including its participation in the Global Network of Centres (NoC) and hosting discussions on prominent platforms such as APrIGF and IGF.
Building on the success of our participation in the past two IGF events, this time we are excited to share our findings on achieving internet safety in the Asia-Pacific, with a particular focus on:
- How does disinformation affect the landscape of electoral megacycles with the rapid development of Gen AI? (https://sail.ink/surveipublik24)
- To what extent are countries in Southeast Asia aware of and have the capacity to mitigate the impacts of FIMI on the region's democratic processes and socio-political stability?
- To what extent is generative AI being used and misused in financial frauds, and how aware are Southeast Asian countries of these activities?
This session will reflect on SAIL’s works, challenges, and lessons learned over the past two years. Ultimately, we aim to support relevant stakeholders in crafting effective policies to enhance internet safety in the Asia-Pacific region.
