Description
Libraries in all walks of life play a cross-cutting role in ensuring equitable access to information for all, through physical and digital media alike. They do this through a unique combination of connectivity, content (their collections, developed in order to respond to community needs), dedicated staff and public community spaces. This connotes the essential roles of libraries as strategic hubs and access points to building digital cooperation, advancing digital futures in Africa there by building digital governance together.
However, the pathway towards building digital governance together needs a holistic approach drawing on multistakeholder collaboration and data backed decision making to identity and build the capacity of librarians to lead digital cooperation and inclusion strategies, support library digital infrastructure development, and policies that will facilitate and enhance libraries’ contribution towards digital futures in Africa.
In achieving this mutual goal of digital transformation in Africa by building digital cooperation for and with libraries, this session will share key evidence and examples of how libraries are strategic access points to building digital cooperation through Libraries For Digital Futures. Through this session, we will share how libraries in Africa are leveraging digital technologies and the internet in advancing digital inclusion strategies, building collaboration to advance digital advance digital inclusion strategies and empowering librarians to lead digital inclusion efforts in their local communities.
Through the session, we will engage with IGF participants and ecosystem partners to share community level impact being made by libraries leading efforts for digital inclusion efforts and building digital cooperation in Africa thereby supporting evidence and information to inform and strengthen policy, enhance IGFs’ impact work with global frameworks, WSIS, the Global Digital Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Furthermore, this session will provide key strategic insights and share knowledge and experiences to better shape the future of the digital ecosystem with libraries, improve access to resources for library digital cooperation activities.
