This Lightning Talk will explore how gaming serves as a universal language that transcends borders, languages, and cultures, making digital participation more inclusive.
With over 3 billion gamers worldwide, digital games and gamification have become powerful tools for engagement, learning, and digital inclusion. This session will highlight how gaming can:
• Break down linguistic and cultural barriers to enable diverse participation in digital spaces.
• Introduce underrepresented communities to Internet governance and digital rights through gaming mechanics.
• Serve as an educational tool to teach cybersecurity, misinformation detection, and civic engagement.
The talk will showcase real-world applications where gamification has been used to drive digital literacy, governance participation, and community engagement.
This session will ensure a meaningful experience for both onsite and online participants through: - A hybrid format, featuring an in-person Lightning Talk and a follow-up online discussion. - Dedicated online and onsite moderators to ensure real-time interaction. - Live audience engagement tools: • Mentimeter polls & Q&A for both onsite and online audiences. • Miro / FigJam for collaborative brainstorming during the online segment. • Livestreaming and recorded session for accessibility beyond the event. Mentimeter/Slido – Live polls & Q&A submission for both online & onsite attendees. Miro/FigJam – Virtual whiteboarding for brainstorming and interactive discussions.
