SDGs
9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Targets: The proposal directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. Specifically, it addresses SDG Target 9.c, which emphasizes increasing access to information and communications technology (ICT) and striving to provide universal and affordable internet access in least developed countries and small island developing states by 2030. The focus of the research is on enhancing the resilience of internet infrastructure in the Caribbean, a region vulnerable to natural disasters and connectivity challenges. By assessing and improving the strategic resilience of internet infrastructure, the project seeks to ensure that the region’s digital infrastructure can withstand disruptions, contributing to the overall stability of the region's ICT networks.

Description
A resilient, interoperable, and trustworthy Internet is essential for ensuring security and stability. The SubOptic Foundation, through the Resilience Project, assessed the resilience of internet infrastructure in the Caribbean and explored the concept of “strategic resilience” to tackle the region’s challenges. The final report, due for release in late March, will include contributions from the Youth Advisory Board, which provided research and insights to support the project’s goal of promoting resilient internet connectivity in the Caribbean. This effort focuses on closing connectivity gaps and enhancing regional resilience.
This lightning talk will highlight the projects as well as one of the Youth Advisory Board deliverables. A white paper that raises awareness about the concept of strategic resilience outlined in the SubOptic Foundation’s final report, incorporating shared regional narratives, such as the impact of atmospheric events on connectivity,as well as concrete actions that stakeholders can take to foster discussions on Internet resilience in the region through a multistakeholder approach.
