Targets: Our Lightning Talk aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by highlighting the role of AI and emerging technologies in fostering more inclusive, transparent, and effective diplomacy (SDG 16, SDG 16.6). By leveraging data-driven decision-making, AI-powered negotiation tools, and immersive training technologies, we contribute to building resilient institutions and promoting accountable governance. These innovations can enhance diplomatic efficiency, improve crisis preparedness, and support evidence-based policymaking (SDG 9). Furthermore, our talk underscores the importance of international cooperation and technology-sharing to bridge digital divides and ensure equitable access to AI-driven solutions in diplomacy (SDG 17.6). By fostering cross-sectoral and cross-border collaborations (SDG 17, SDG 17.16, SDG 17.17), we aim to strengthen global partnerships and encourage innovation-driven capacity building. Through these efforts, we contribute to making diplomacy more adaptable, data-informed, and globally connected in addressing complex international challenges.

    Description
Diplomacy is evolving—how can AI and emerging technologies shape its future? In this Lightning Talk, we explore the transformative potential of AI and emerging technologies in diplomatic practice, balancing current innovations with realistic near-future developments. We examine how data-driven and AI-powered tools are beginning to reshape international negotiations while projecting their evolution over the coming decade. Starting with promising technologies that are starting today—predictive analytics, AI-assisted speech analysis, and VR training simulations—we'll extend toward emerging capabilities: multilingual diplomatic assistants providing real-time insights, advanced scenario modeling tools, and digitally-enhanced negotiation environments. Rather than simply digitizing existing workflows, these technologies could fundamentally reshape diplomatic processes. Which diplomatic functions will benefit most from technological enhancement? How can we develop tools that strengthen core values—trust, discretion, and effective collaboration—while making diplomacy more adaptive and resilient? What role do these technologies play in fostering transparency and trust between international actors? By addressing these questions, we aim to inspire practical innovation while safeguarding the human elements essential to successful diplomacy in an increasingly complex global landscape.
