In our rapidly advancing digital age, Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) has emerged as one of the most pressing environmental challenges. This lightning talk, titled 'E-Waste (Management & Handling): Turning Trash into Treasure', will illuminate the critical importance of e-waste management and innovative handling techniques that transform discarded electronics from mere trash into valuable resources.
Participants will gain insights into the staggering statistics surrounding e-waste generation, with millions of tons produced annually, much of which ends up in landfills, posing severe environmental and health risks. We will explore the lifecycle of electronic products, highlighting the potential for recycling and recovery of precious metals, plastics and other materials that can be repurposed.
The session will cover best practices for responsible e-waste disposal, including the role of consumers, businesses and policymakers in fostering a circular economy. Attendees will learn about effective recycling programs, refurbishment initiatives and the importance of proper handling to minimize hazardous waste. Additionally, we will delve into innovative technologies and startups that are pioneering sustainable solutions in e-waste management.
