This session will feature a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation from experts in monitoring internet censorship and identifying disinformation campaigns. Speakers will present their findings and methodologies, sharing insights from their work across Latin America. Following the presentations, an interactive discussion will encourage participants to explore collaborative strategies and share best practices. The goal is to strengthen regional networks and learn from each other's experiences. The session will conclude with a Q&A, allowing attendees to engage directly with the speakers, fostering a collaborative environment focused on addressing digital challenges in the region.

This roundtable focuses on the latest trends in internet censorship, shutdowns, and disinformation in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on case studies from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Brazil, and Colombia. The discussion will examine how governments in the region are implementing internet blocks and censorship to control information flow and suppress dissent. It will explore the role of social media in the dissemination of disinformation campaigns, which are often used by governments to manipulate public opinion.
Participants will share techniques for measuring and identifying internet blocks and shutdowns, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among civil society organizations across LATAM and the Caribbean. The session will also cover strategies for detecting, monitoring, and documenting disinformation campaigns, highlighting the role of social media in their spread.
There will be a dedicated on-line moderator managing the session, ensuring that online participants have equal opportunities to engage by monitoring the chat and relaying questions to the speakers in real-time. Online speakers will be able to share brief presentations to better share theirs points. The online moderator will also keep notes of what's being discussed in the session, and we'll be added into a digital whiteboard accessible by all participants, both online and on site, through a tool like Miró. Online participants can also participate in the Q&A that will be held at the end of the session.
