    Description
This session will explore how multi-stakeholder coalitions can effectively contribute to strengthening information integrity and ensuring access to reliable information in the digital public sphere. At a time when challenges to information integrity are becoming more complex and tactics used to influence public discourse are continuously evolving, strengthening collaborative approaches has never been more important. There is a growing need for dedicated spaces where these challenges can be openly discussed, shared, and addressed collectively. Successful examples exist and show that by bringing together key stakeholders, these coalitions foster inclusive and collaborative approaches to addressing information challenges. UNDP has led a Global Coalition on Information Integrity and Elections bringing together governments, civil society, and tech platforms, while also supporting national coalitions in various countries. These experiences provide actionable insights and best practices to inform this session. The discussion will bring together representatives from the Brazilian government, the German government, UNDP, the Samir Kassir Foundation, and TikTok to spotlight innovative strategies, best practices, and lessons learned from successful global and national initiatives, examining what works, why it works, and how these approaches can be scaled and adapted to diverse contexts. The participants will provide an analysis of the topic from multiple angles and reflect on it critically and constructively. This session aims to underscore the strategic importance of coalition-building in upholding democratic principles, strengthening information integrity, fostering digital resilience and promoting a trustworthy Internet.

The session will be fully hybrid, ensuring equal participation for both onsite and online attendees. A Zoom platform will facilitate virtual connections, with a dedicated online moderator managing the virtual audience, relaying questions, and encouraging real-time engagement. To foster interaction between speakers and participants, live polling and a moderated Q&A session will be incorporated, allowing both in-person and online attendees to contribute equally. Virtual attendees will also be encouraged to use chat features to share insights, which the moderator will integrate into the discussion. Panelists will address both onsite and virtual audiences directly, with clear visual and audio integration to ensure inclusive participation. To enhance interactivity, digital engagement tools such as Slido or Mentimeter will be used for live polls and Q&A. A collaborative document (such as Google Docs or Padlet) may be used to capture key takeaways and reflections from participants in real time, fostering ongoing engagement even after the session concludes.

Targets: SDG 5 Gender Equality 5.5 (Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life). This session focuses on strengthening information integrity, which is essential for ensuring that women have equal opportunities to participate in political and public discourse. Disinformation and online harassment disproportionately target women in leadership roles, hindering their participation in decision-making processes. By fostering multi-stakeholder coalitions, the session seeks to create inclusive information ecosystems that support women’s engagement. 5.b (Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women). The session addresses how digital platforms and technologies influence information integrity and the role of multi-stakeholder coalitions in ensuring equitable access to reliable information. By promoting responsible digital governance and inclusive policies, the session contributes to empowering women through access to accurate, safe, and trustworthy online spaces. SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities 10.3 (Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome). Strengthening information integrity contributes to equal opportunities in political and public discourse by reducing the spread of targeted disinformation campaigns, particularly those that aim to suppress specific communities, such as women, minorities, and marginalized groups. The discussion will look at how multi-stakeholder coalitions can play a role in promoting policies and actions that counter these discriminatory practices, ensuring a fairer and more inclusive information ecosystem. SDG 16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions 16.10 (Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements) This session directly supports public access to trustworthy information by addressing the challenges of information pollution and strengthening information integrity. Information pollution can suppress civic engagement and restrict fundamental freedoms, particularly in electoral contexts. The discussion will focus on ensuring open, reliable, and inclusive information ecosystems, reinforcing the protection of democratic principles. 16.7 (Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory, and representative decision-making at all levels) Access to accurate and reliable information is essential for inclusive decision-making and public participation in governance. Information pollution disproportionately affects marginalized voices, limiting their ability to engage in political and electoral processes. By bringing together governments, civil society, and tech platforms, this session aims to strengthen participatory governance through collaborative solutions. SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals 17.16 (Enhance the global partnership for sustainable development, complemented by multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources, to support the achievement of the sustainable development goals in all countries, in particular developing countries). This session directly aligns with strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships, bringing together governments, civil society, and tech platforms to collaborate on information integrity. The discussion will highlight how partnerships can foster knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and collective action to address challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation. 17.17 (Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships) The focus on coalition-building emphasizes the need for cross-sector collaboration to strengthen information ecosystems. The session will showcase best practices from public-private partnerships and how civil society plays a crucial role in fostering trust, transparency, and accountability in the digital space.
