Policy Question(s)
-How can IPv6 adoption accelerate digital inclusion and bridge the digital divide, notably to support the achievement of SDGs?
-What policy or collaboration frameworks can governments implement to support widespread IPv6 deployment for sustainable development?
-How can multistakeholder collaboration (governments, technical community, and private sector) drive IPv6 adoption and ensure universal connectivity?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Participants will gain practical insights into the role of IPv6 in achieving universal connectivity and SDG goals. They will learn from global case studies and best practices how IPv6 enhances digital inclusion, smart infrastructure, and sustainable development. Key takeaways include:
Technical and policy insights into IPv6 deployment challenges and solutions.
Best practices from governments, ISPs, and industry players leading IPv6 adoption.
Strategies for cross-sector collaboration to accelerate IPv6 rollout.
Actionable recommendations for integrating IPv6 into national digital strategies.
SDGs
Description:
This session will explore the strategic role of IPv6 in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enabling universal connectivity and fostering a more inclusive digital ecosystem. As the Internet continues to evolve, the deployment of IPv6 is essential to bridging the digital divide, supporting smart infrastructure, and ensuring long-term scalability. The discussion will highlight challenges, best practices, and policy frameworks that can drive widespread IPv6 adoption while showcasing case studies and real-world success stories that demonstrate its transformative impact. Recognizing that the shift to IPv6 requires a coordinated approach, the session will also examine how governments, the private sector, and the technical community can collaborate to accelerate deployment and ensure the Internet remains open, scalable, and accessible to all. In addition, the session will present supportive evidence to contextualise these discussions, including the joint declaration on IPv6 deployment between the RIPE NCC and ITU and other joint activities and efforts between the RIRs and governments/regulators.

Expected Outcomes
This session aims to generate outcomes and strategies for advancing IPv6 adoption as a key enabler of SDG achievement.
Expected outcomes include:
A set of key recommendations for governments and regulators on IPv6 deployment.
A best practice featuring case studies on successful IPv6 deployment
Follow-up engagements with ITU, UNDP, League of Arab States, EU and other stakeholders for capacity-building initiatives on IPv6 implementation.
Support global discussions on universal access, ensuring IPv6 is a central component of future digital policies.
Hybrid Format: To ensure a fully interactive hybrid session, we will facilitate online and onsite interaction, ensuring equal participation. We will use a dedicated online moderator to integrate virtual participants into the discussion and Q&A session and answer audience questions in real time.
