    Description:

As technology advances, so do the tactics used in disinformation campaigns. From AI-generated deepfakes to automated bot networks, emerging technologies are reshaping the way false narratives spread across the Indo-Pacific. This session will examine the evolving relationship between technological innovation and disinformation, exploring both the threats posed by new tools and the opportunities they create for countering misinformation. The speakers will discuss the types of technologies that are used to spread disinformation, regulatory challenges, and strategies to enhance digital resilience in an era of rapid technological change. For this session, we aim to invite: - Dr. Fitriani (Senior Analyst at Australian Strategic Policy Institute), to share about how emerging technologies impact the scale and sophistication of disinformation. - Nicholas Marsh (Senior Researcher at Peace Research Institute Oslo) to share about what regulatory measures or approaches are needed to prevent the misuse of emerging technologies for disinformation. - Pieter Pandie (Researcher, CSIS Indonesia) to share about the challenges and opportunities for regional and global AI governance, particularly considering geopolitical rivalries between great powers.
