How can AI regulation processes advance in Latin America in light of the recent techno-geopolitical landscape?
How can we address calls for AI deregulation and the resistance of Big Tech to being regulated, given the urgency of tackling their impact on human rights?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the global AI regulatory landscape and its implications for Latin America, with insights drawn from AlSur’s Consortium experience. They will explore strategies to navigate the tensions between regulation, innovation, and corporate influence, identifying key challenges and opportunities for advocacy. Through participatory dynamics, attendees will engage with diverse perspectives from civil society, academia, and the private sector, fostering collaborative approaches to AI governance. By the end of the session, participants will leave with concrete tools and a shared roadmap to strengthen AI regulation in the region, tailored to its unique social, political, and economic contexts.
