As Latin American countries develop AI strategies and regulatory frameworks, aligning with global standards like UNESCO’s AI Ethics Framework, there is an urgent need to discuss challenges, opportunities, and local adaptations. This session brings together government representatives, civil society, academia, and the technical community from South America to explore regulatory experiences, AI risk assessment methodologies (RAM), national AI strategies, and the role of regulatory sandboxes in fostering AI innovation. The discussion will address balancing innovation with ethical and sustainable AI governance while considering socio-economic and geopolitical impacts. Key focus areas include: National AI strategies and their alignment with global frameworks. RAM methodologies for assessing AI risks and ensuring ethical deployment. The implementation and effectiveness of regulatory sandboxes for AI development. The impact of AI regulations on innovation, digital inclusion, and economic development.
