Maarit has an extensive expertise in telecoms, digital and internet matters gained through different professional roles in government relations, business development and consultancy over nearly 20 years.
In her current job, Maarit leads ETNO’s work on telecommunications regulation, spectrum, competition policy and international affairs. She works closely with the operator community as well as governmental and business stakeholders on topical digital issues with a view to advance the availability of digital services to citizens and other users.
Prior to ETNO, Maarit worked with the Internet Society acquiring extensive links with global internet and technical community. She was deeply involved in projects to connect people in unserved areas and remains passionate about the potential of digital technologies for economic and social development.
Previously, Maarit held various public sector business development roles at Cisco Systems focusing on areas such as smart cities. She has also developed a strong service-oriented, hands-on profile while working on technology policy issues in leading Brussels-based consultancies Interel and Schuman Associates.
Maarit has a strong European academic background from the College of Europe, London School of Economics, King’s College London and SciencesPo. Maarit is a Finnish national and is based in Brussels.
